World AIDS Day
Every year on December 1st, individuals and organisations around the world campaign together to bring attention to the global AIDS epidemic. Below you will find more information the theme of World AIDS Day 2007 – 2008, what happened on World AIDS Day 2007, and updates on World AIDS Day 2008.
The theme for World AIDS Day has been determined by the World AIDS Campaign since 1997.
“Leadership must be demonstrated at every level to get ahead of the epidemic- in families, in communities, in countries and internationally.
It started with a question: How can we inspire people to take action on climate change?
The answer: Ask the people of Sydney to turn off their lights for one hour.
On 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2,100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour. If the greenhouse reduction achieved in the Sydney CBD during Earth Hour was sustained for a year, it would be equivalent to taking 48,616 cars off the road for a year.
With Sydney icons like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House turning their lights off, and unique events such as weddings by candlelight, the world took notice. Inspired by the collective effort of millions of Sydneysiders, many major global cities joined Earth Hour in 2008, turning a symbolic event into a global movement.

How We Became Involved With Make Poverty History
A Letter To Liz Bernstein MPH Co-Ordinator June 26, 2005
Live 8 Banner "Hamilton Cares"
Hi Liz, I wanted to tell you what my sons and I have been doing to raise awareness for Live 8
. I emailed everyone I know asking them to sign the online pettition at www.makepovertyhistory.ca .
We made a banner and are taking it all over Hamilton and getting people to sign it and telling them about Live 8 Make Poverty History. We are asking them to make banners and wear a white ribbon or band on July 1, 2005 to support End Child Poverty in Canada
, and to hang their banner on July 2, 2005 the day of the Live 8 Concerts.
We are taking pictures of people and business's who are signing our banner to show you that Hamilton cares and wants to Make Poverty History, you can see in the pictures the progress we are making. We are surprised at the amount of people who are unaware of Live 8 and the G8 and are gaining supporters along the way for Make Poverty History.
I am very proud to be a part of such an important world changing movement and am extremely proud and thankful for Bono
, Bob Geldof
and all of the people involved in Make Poverty History.
The banner will be taken around until July 2, 2005 or until there is no room to sign!!! I am still hoping to somehow get tickets as I was unable to get through online on Thursday. I was ready at 9:00am to get tickets and as soon as I started my computer froze it took me 20 minutes before I could get it working!!! Finally I did and it was too late!!!
I signed the online pettition and recieved an email noting that not everyone will be able to attend the concerts and you can show your support in other ways. This inspired me to make a banner and I a very grateful because now I'm on a mission, not just going to the concert to support it, I'm getting everyone I see involved!
Our banner was a great success and we were given tickets to go to Live 8 in Barrie where we met Liz Bernstein and Gerry Barr along with many inspiring people and artists! We gave our banner to Gerry Barr to hang in his office in Ottawa and are very proud to have it there.
We have been involved in numerous campaigns since. You can see the banner and pictures on my MySpace page
. We are making a banner for the Make Poverty History World's Longest Banner against Poverty Campaign, and will be taking it to local events throughout the summer.
