International AIDS Candlelight Memorial

We are pleased to take this opportunity to announce this year's theme
for the 2010 Candlelight Memorial: "Many Lights for Human Rights", which
was voted on by our Board during our annual meeting in Accra. We feel
this theme captures the collective movement of the Candlelight to move
to action in the drive for access to treatment, care, and prevention, in
addition to the elimination of stigma and discrimination. It also aligns
with the UNAIDS 2009 World AIDS Day theme of "Universal Access & Human
Rights".


While in the past Global Health Council has unveiled the poster theme
during a launch in Washington DC on World AIDS Days, this year, we hope
to launch this theme together, with you. We want the Candlelight's
message to be expressed globally on December 1st, from which point we
will build momentum in the months leading up to the Memorial on May
16th, 2010.


Many of you have already planned your activities for World AIDS Day, and
we encourage you to promote Candlelight's theme at that time. For those
of you who do not yet have activities planned, here are some simple and
accessible suggestions to get you started:


1) Announce the Candlelight theme and advocacy priorities during
your World AIDS Day event.


2) Partner with another organization that will be conducting
activities on that day and promote the Candlelight during their
activities.


3) Print out the poster (Low resolution:

hang it in your offices.


4) Write a message (attaching the poster and or/theme) to you
listserves.


I am also including our Candlelight Advocacy priorities (attached) as we
are very much pushing to promote these as well. We encourage you to
select the priorities that are most relevant to your community and
present these throughout the year, in addition to World AIDS Day.


Together we can spread the message further and prepare and recruit
people for the 2010 Memorial. Please do not hesitate to contact me for
